Music! Not Mischief Finale Concert!

Since September 2008, members of 14 Division have been involved in a unique youth mentoring programme at Parkdale Collegiate Institute called MUSIC! Not Mischief. Using guitars supplied by Canada's guitar company, Dot On Shaft (www.dotonshaft.com) and funded by ProAction Cops & Kids (www.copsandkids.ca), 14 Division officers have been offering inner city youth instruction in the guitar, fostering a lifestyle of discipline and positivity. At the same time, officers have conveyed a pro-community message and promoted an anti-crime and anti-drug agenda.

On Thursday, May 7th, 2009, six of these participating youth will perform in the MUSIC! Not Mischief Year 1 Final Show with Cambridge, Ontario recording artists Tracenine (
www.tracenine.com). A panel of celebrity judges will select which performances are worthy of winning a guitar package from Dot On Shaft. The evening promises to be exciting.

Please come out and support your fellow officers and the kids in our community who are doing their part to create a better future for themselves, their peers and their neighbourhood.

About ProAction Cops & Kids:

ProAction is a charity that funds projects and activities, initiated and run by police officers, which engage kids at risk. Its goal is to build trust and mutual respect between cops and kids, helping kids at risk before they become kids in trouble.

Quilted Guitar

Youth violence and drug exposure has been the unfortunate reality to too many of today's kids. When we as adults reflect back on our own youth, we can reference those changes as we ask ourselves, "When is it going to end? Is there something more that we could be doing? Maybe kids need more opportunity to get invovled in something healthy."

It doesn't help when our children are inundated with the often negative imagery of modern music. The same music asks them to embrace their youthful angst by engaging in fringe activities and distancing themselves further from the positivity that family and REAL devotion to music has to offer.

Music has to be more than just a voyeuristic experience. And we can't allow the worst of modern music to suck our kids into a vacuum of negativity.
